Swap guides

Swap guides, one per chain

The mechanics are identical everywhere. The wallet, the exchange and the cost are not.

Pick your network and follow along

A swap works identically everywhere. What changes is which wallet you need, which exchange has the liquidity, what token pays for gas, and how much a mistake costs you.

If this is your first time, start with Base or Solana. Every step is the same as on Ethereum, and getting something wrong costs a fraction of a cent instead of thirty dollars.

Start with the concepts
Read your first swap first if you have never done one. It covers what every setting means, which these chain specific pages assume you already know.
What you needWhy
A self custody walletThe trade executes from your address, so you need one you control
Tokens to swapMoved from an exchange or received from someone
Gas in the native tokenETH, SOL, BNB or POL depending on the chain. Beginners forget this constantly
Five minutesLess once you have done it twice
Cost comparison

What the same swap costs on each chain

NetworkTypical swap costBest for
EthereumUsually a few dollars, sometimes far more when the network is busyDeepest liquidity and largest trades
BaseUsually well under one centLearning and small trades
SolanaA small fraction of a centLearning and small trades
ArbitrumA few centsLearning and small trades
BNB ChainA few centsLearning and small trades
PolygonA fraction of a centLearning and small trades

Cost is gas plus the pool fee. On cheap chains the pool fee is almost the whole cost. On Ethereum mainnet, gas usually dominates.
