Why this number is usually a trap
"What if it hits Bitcoin's market cap" is the most popular calculation in crypto, and almost every time somebody runs it they are trying to justify a purchase they have already decided on.
Run it anyway, because the arithmetic is honest even when the reasoning is not. What it shows you is the size of the ask. A token at a fifty million dollar market cap reaching a hundred billion is not a good trade that went well. It is a two thousand times move that would make it one of the largest assets on earth, and the number of tokens that have ever done that is very close to zero.
The other half nobody runs: market cap does not go up because people buy. It goes up because people buy from someone who would rather have the cash. Every dollar of market cap that appears is a dollar somebody paid, and the money needed is real money that has to come from somewhere.
This is arithmetic, not a forecast, and nothing here is advice about what to buy. A calculator cannot tell you whether a project deserves a hundred billion dollars. Almost none of them do.
Common questions
Should I use circulating or total supply?
Circulating, to compare like with like against a quoted market cap. Then run the dilution calculator to see what the rest of the supply does when it arrives.
Is "new money needed" accurate?
It is a floor, and a generous one. Market cap is price times supply, so a thin market can add a lot of market cap on very little real buying. The number is there for scale, not precision.
Why do the presets not update?
