Is Cosmos one chain or many?
Many. The Cosmos Hub is a single chain with the ATOM token, and the wider Cosmos ecosystem is hundreds of independent chains built with the same toolkit that can talk to each other.
What is IBC?
The Inter-Blockchain Communication protocol, which lets Cosmos chains pass tokens and messages directly using light clients rather than a trusted bridge operator. It is the strongest working answer to bridge risk in production.
