  • Validator concentration varies widely between layer 1s and is worth checking rather than assuming.
  • Newer chains have shorter track records under real adversarial pressure.
  • Crypto assets are volatile. Drawdowns of seventy percent or more have happened on every network in this list, including the largest.
  • Sending to an address on the wrong network can lose funds permanently. Always send a small test amount first.

Common questions

Is TON run by Telegram?
Not any more. Telegram started the project and abandoned it in 2020 after a legal settlement. An independent community continued it, and Telegram now integrates the result rather than operating it.
Why does TON use a different address format?
Because it uses sharded workchains rather than one chain, so addresses carry information about where an account lives. Addresses can also be displayed in more than one encoding, which confuses people the first time.
