Which one, and why
You want the longer history, wide integrations and a large existing base of applications and partnerships.
Full Polygon PoS pageYou want a rollup that settles to Ethereum, and the shortest route in from a US exchange account.
Full Base pageBase for a first onchain network, on the strength of the onramp and the security model. Polygon still matters for its reach and its enterprise integrations, and the security question is the one to understand first.

The parts that change the answer
The security models are not the same
Polygon PoS has run as a sidechain with its own validators, which means Ethereum does not secure it the way it secures a rollup. Base posts its data to Ethereum and inherits settlement from it. Polygon is moving toward zk proofs, and the distinction still matters today.
Getting in
Base connects to Coinbase directly. Polygon is widely supported by exchanges too, and usually with an extra step or two.
Ecosystem shape
Polygon has years of integrations and enterprise deals. Base has grown fast in consumer and social applications.
