Which one, and why
You want the deeper ecosystem, more liquidity and more applications that already exist.
Full Solana pageYou are interested in the object model and sub second finality, and you are comfortable being early somewhere with less liquidity.
Full Sui pageSolana for anything you want to do today, on ecosystem depth alone. Sui is a genuinely different design worth watching, and being early to a chain is a bet on the chain rather than a way to save on fees.
The specifications
| Solana | Sui | |
|---|---|---|
| Consensus | Proof of stake with proof of history | Mysticeti proof of stake |
| Throughput | Thousands | Very high |
| Finality | Under 13 seconds | Under half a second |
| Live since | 2020 | 2023 |
| In one line | A single fast chain built for cheap, high volume activity. | An object based chain where simple transfers skip consensus entirely. |
The parts that change the answer
Execution model
Sui treats state as objects that can often be processed in parallel without full consensus, which is where its sub second finality comes from. Solana parallelises differently, through declared account access.
Ecosystem depth
Solana has far more applications, far more liquidity and far more tooling. That gap is the single most practical difference.
Both are fast
Neither chain is where you go for slow, expensive certainty. Comparing them on speed alone tells you very little.

A comparison page cannot see what you already hold or what you are trying to do. On a call we can, and we will tell you when the honest answer is that it does not matter.
