Aping in is buying on impulse: seeing a token, feeling the urgency and buying before doing any work. The term is self aware, which is part of its appeal, and it describes an enormous share of all meme coin volume.
The behavior is not always irrational, in the sense that some tokens move fast enough that research time is real cost. It is worth being honest that this makes it gambling rather than investing, and sizing it the way you would size a bet.
The practical version: a separate wallet, an amount you have already written off, and a decision about the exit made before you enter.
Buying a token four minutes after launch because it is trending, with no idea who deployed it.
