Definition
Proving a statement is true without revealing why.
A zero knowledge proof lets one party convince another that something is true while revealing nothing beyond that fact. In rollups it proves a batch of transactions was executed correctly.
The same math enables privacy applications: proving you are over eighteen without revealing your birthday, or proving you hold a balance without revealing the amount.
In practice
A ZK proof of a million transactions can be verified in milliseconds, which is what makes ZK rollups scale.
