Definition
Confiscating part of a validator's stake as a penalty.
Slashing punishes provable misbehavior such as signing two conflicting blocks or being offline for extended periods. It is the enforcement mechanism that makes proof of stake work.
If you stake through a pool, you are exposed to their operational quality. Choose operators with a track record.
