Arweave takes a single upfront payment and uses an endowment model to fund storage indefinitely, rather than charging monthly like conventional hosting.
It is used where permanence genuinely matters: NFT artwork, historical records, and front ends that should survive their creators losing interest.
In practice
Some NFT projects store artwork on Arweave specifically so the image cannot disappear when a company stops paying a hosting bill.
